Tosa City Full Time ALT Position
This opening is for a full-time position as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in Tosa City starting as soon as possible, with the initial contract finishing on March 31, 2021. This position has potential for renewal for up to 2 more years (through 2023) for good performance.
The placement will be in elementary and junior high schools across Tosa City, where the ALT will assist as a team teacher and help plan English lessons under a schedule created by the Board of Education. As well as teaching English lessons, you may also be asked to participate in other school activities such as clubs, cleaning of the school and cultural festivals. There are also occasional visits to kindergartens and nursery schools.
- Be a native speaker of English, or have acquired an education in English for at least 12 years.
- Completed a University Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in English countries.
Currently residing in Japan
Able to communicate in Japanese at a conversational level (N3 or better).
- Have at least one year of ALT English teaching experience at Elementary school and Junior High School in Japan.
- Hold a valid visa status that allows you to live and work in Japan.
Hold a Japanese license or International Driver’s License within the validity period

Tosa City is a modest city southwest of Kochi City. It was founded in 1959 and the Niyodo River flows through it, providing vital streams to the rice grown there and also having importance for its paper industry. Like its namesake, Tosa prides itself on its fine fish used in traditional Tosa sushi. Tosa borders the Pacific Ocean, allowing for fresh sea breezes in the warm months. The city is also well known for pomelos, bonito skipjack, and ginger.
